I don't what the light will be like, whether we will be able to venture far from the stables, if we can go into fields and obviously I have no idea what the weather will do! But I wouldn't wish it any other way - I enjoy arriving at a yard or someone's home, meeting the owner, saying hello to the horses and then going for a wander around to look for backdrops, doorways and anything else that might catch my eye.

The location for Sue and Dolly's session certainly didn't disappoint, not only was it a lovely well cared for yard but it is also surrounded in the beautiful Lancashire countryside and the hills made a perfect setting. Despite it being grey and drizzly just an hour or so before I left home the rain held off for us and the bit of mist hanging around added a lovely atmospheric feel to some of the images. Here's a selection of my favourites:

My Story (Part Two) - Stepping Outside Our Comfort Zones http://www.jbroughton.co.uk/blog/2015/8/stepping-outside-our-comfort-zones A couple of posts back I shared part of my story, how I bought a camera, very much on whim, just a series of events that all came together and ended in an unplanned purchase. I shared some of first pictures which I'm happy to admit are pretty dull and uninspiring.

Towards the end of that post I mentioned that I enrolled with The Open College of the Arts, I knew I could get better than I was and I couldn't find any local courses that appealed so I opted for online learning instead. This was the end of 2009 so there wasn't a great deal of choice available so I jumped straight in with courses that could build up to a degree if I wished.

Anyway, this isn't really a post about photography education, its more a post about how sometimes the things we really, really don't want to do can turn out to be pretty amazing.

When I started to study my pictures were mostly landscape related, not so much traditional rolling hills landscapes more just the everyday sights around us. I was comfortable shooting that, just being out and taking photographs gave me a lot of pleasure. The type of pictures I enjoyed to look at though always had people in them. Long before I had the slightest interest in photography I owned books of the work of Frank Meadow Sutcliffe who photographed life in and around Whitby. But it wasn't something I wanted to do myself, I didn't have the slightest interest in photographing people.

Then I came to an exercise in my course where I needed to be at some sort of public event and take a series of candid pictures of people. I really, really did not want to do this. It didn't interest me in the slightest and it certainly didn't inspire me. So I put it off. It was an online course, no one checking up on me so it didn't matter whether I did it. So I left it, moved past it, did other work instead. But it started to bother me that I was paying a lot of money to do a course and then leaving out the bits I didn't fancy, it didn't feel right somehow so I decided to bite the bullet and find a way to do it.

After a lot of pondering I decided that I would go to a steam railway, there were always lots of trainspotters with cameras so I wasn't going to stand out like a sore thumb. My plan was to get there just before a train, spend five minutes taking the bare minimum of pictures and then I could tick the box that I'd done the exercise.

Imagine my joy when I got up on the planned morning and it was raining, the perfect excuse not to go! But I realised if I didn't go and at least take a couple of pictures I would never get over this and it was starting to become a bit of a fear.

So I did it.

And these are some of the pictures, the first time I ever photographed people (other than holiday snaps of my family, obviously!).

Ramsbottom Station Ramsbottom Station Ramsbottom Station Ramsbottom Station

They aren't fantastic pictures, but they certainly aren't terrible. I could definitely improve them if I re-edited them now but that would be pointless.

I will never forget how these pictures made me feel that day - I felt amazing, I got a warm fuzzy feeling inside, it took no time at all to forget all that dread and just become totally absorbed in what I was doing, in observing without being observed and trying to tell a story. I could have stayed all day.

From then onwards I was hooked on portrait photography and although my skills have improved massively some things haven't changed at all. I still get that happy feeling inside (the day it goes is the day I close my business) and I still want to tell a story with my images.

So the moral of the story is, if you have a thing you've been putting off, if you are a bit scared to do it because its outside your comfort zone, if you think you will hate it because it's new and different or maybe its just difficult, just do it. Give it a try. You may be right, you may hate it - but what if you are wrong and it changes your life?

Introducing Lifestyle Maternity Photography - Mini Sessions http://www.jbroughton.co.uk/blog/2015/7/lifestyle-maternity-photography_mini I'm really excited to be launching mini sessions for lifestyle maternity photography with a fantastic offer, which I'll get to later, but first I wanted to explain why I'm so passionate about maternity photography and why I'll be offering year round mini sessions even though they aren't something I normally offer.

I'm a mum of a very nearly 23 year old daughter and like lots of others I'm not especially comfortable being in front of the camera. Add to that being pregnant and all the feelings that brings with it I never gave a thought to having any pictures taken. I was pregnant pre mobile phones with cameras so the constant picture taking that we have now just didn't happen, it took more thought and effort, you needed to go and buy a film, find the camera that hadn't been used since the last holiday, finish the roll of film, send it off to Truprint and hope it didn't get lost. All of that, whilst pregnant, seemed a lot of effort so it didn't happen. Add to that the early weeks of feeling constantly sick, many weeks of feeling so tired I could cry and unflattering maternity wear (you just couldn't get stylish maternity wear then, shell suits were the height of fashion and mine grew with me for the first few months!!) and photographs just weren't on the agenda.

But now when I see beautiful lifestyle maternity images on Pinterest I really regret that I don't have one single picture of me with my bump. I can remember how I felt, I can remember how people reacted to my bump - I looked ready to give birth for a few weeks before I did - and I can remember how my bump was to look down at but I really have no concept of how I looked to anyone else. I know that I wouldn't have liked those pictures at the time, or soon afterwards when I'd lost most of my baby weight, but now all these years later I really wish I had them to remind me how I really looked.

So that's why I've decided to offer mini lifestyle maternity sessions, in the hope that I can help someone to one day look back and see how lovely they looked to the rest of the world when they were pregnant, even if they weren't feeling lovely. I know it's easy now to take a quick selfie - and I seriously hope every mum to be does that, and prints them so they have them forever - but that selfie is how you see yourself in the mirror, not how everyone else sees you.

Lifestyle baby photography, Lancashire, Manchester and Cheshire

Lifestyle maternity sessions could be outdoors or at home, you could have pictures taken in the nursery and then the same ones with your baby - how cool would those be to pass on to your children as they grow up! Its a short session, 30-45 minutes, so not too strenuous and its very natural so no need to feel self concious or awkward. They are available on weekdays only, so ideally once maternity leave has started, and cost just £95 including three images.

But just for the summer I'm going to be offering a complimentary mini maternity session to anyone booking lifestyle newborn photography - and you can book at any time so you don't need to be having a baby in the summer to grab your complimentary shoot !

My Story (Part One) + Why I'm Launching Online Training http://www.jbroughton.co.uk/blog/2015/7/photography-online-training It sounds a little dramatic to say that photography changed my life but it really did in so many ways. From small, but really important, ways such as changing how I look at everyday life (everything is a photo opportunity!) to the really big change of having my own business and all that that has lead to, winning a major national award, being in various local newspapers several times, a magazine feature and even a radio appearance. One of the best things about photography for me is the people that I get to meet, whether that's my clients or people who volunteer for my Fifty Portraits project, I've photographed so many wonderful people who tell me their stories. It might be stories of their family or their horses or their business, but whatever their stories may be, I love to hear them and they inspire my photography.

I often get asked about my story, about how I became interested in photography and how I came to launch my business. Its mostly a story of random chains of events but I'm a great believer in things happening for a reason, call it fate or whatever you prefer but I landed here by chance rather than plans or ambition.

And here are two facts you may find interesting :

Prior to 2008 I had ABSOLUTELY NO INTEREST in photography or any other remotely creative pastime, I considered myself to have a mathematical, analytic mind that just wasn't suited to anything creative.

At no point in my life prior to 2012 did I ever consider the possibility of self employment, I had never had the slightest inclination to start a business and fully intended to keep on working for others until I retired. In April 2012 I launched my business !

I will confess however that whilst I may not have ever planned on running a business I did spend a very long time just knowing that there was something different that I was "supposed" to be doing, I worked as a Financial Controller (I'm a part qualified accountant) but constantly battled a nagging feeling that I should be doing something completely different. I often told people and was always asked what that different thing was and my answer was always the same "I have no idea but when I work it out I'll retrain if I need to". I'd have laughed at anyone who suggested photography - but no-one did, because I have this mathematical, analytical mind remember!

Anyway, back to the random chains of events - 2006, just before Christmas, I'd been working a lot of extra hours and had more money than usual due in my wage. This wasn't the norm for me, any overtime was usually unpaid. I was Christmas shopping in town with my hubby, again not the norm, he doesn't usually Christmas shop with me. I walked along a stretch of a road I don't normally walk along and happened to look in the window of a camera shop, again not something I would usually do, remember I'm not creative. Before I know it hubby is saying "you should treat yourself with that extra money" and very shortly after I'm the proud owner of the latest Fuji compact camera, with a whopping 6.9 megapixels !

Initially I hardly used it, a few family snaps at Christmas and the odd photo whilst we were on holiday - I'm almost too embarrassed to share these but here is a random selection from my very earliest pictures, these are some of the oldest on my hard drive, all taken in 2007. They all have one thing in common, they are incredibly boring!

It's safe to say that at this point I wasn't really inspiring myself with my images !

Fast forward to early 2008 and I started to take the camera along with me when I went for a walk and from time to time I'd manage to take the odd image that I quite liked, more by good luck than anything else, but that was enough to kick start the photography bug. I started to photograph anything and everything and a camera upgrade soon followed along with a quest to learn as much as I could. With the help of books and magazines I eventually came to understand all those baffling terms you read in photography magazines, it was a long process but I also mastered my camera, learned how to shoot in different modes, how to override exposure, what white balance and ISO meant.

But I still wasn't happy, I had a goal and that goal was to create an image that was good enough to go on the wall and so I enrolled with the Open College of the Arts so I could learn even more. I truly believed that if I took one wall worthy picture that I would have reached a point where I was happy with my work and that I wouldn't need to learn any more or develop any further.

From the oldest pictures on my hard drive to the newest, and a lesson learned - every time I take my camera out I am capable of creating images that can go on a wall (and if I'm shooting for a client they do go on a wall, every time) but I now know that there is no point where I will be able to say that I don't want to continue to learn and develop my skills. The day I decide there's no room to develop further will be the day I give up !

Horse_photography_lancashireHorse_photography_lancashireEquine photoshoot in rural Lancashire

So why online photography training for beginners ? Because photography is a wonderful hobby, when that bug bites you just want to photograph everything. You start to see differently, to notice ordinary everyday things in a different way and to become inspired by the simplest of things, it could be the shape or texture of an everyday object or just the way the light falls in a room at a certain time of day, the simplest of things can become quite magical. But if you just can't master your camera and capture that little moment in the way you imagined that bubble might burst, you might lose interest before you really got started, you might pack away that camera and let it gather dust.

I want to motivate others to get the photography bug, to not give up and to be inspired by their everyday surroundings and so I decided to gather together my knowledge and share it in an eight week online course "Beyond Auto".

The first session of Beyond Auto starts next Wednesday, as well as eight weekly emails packed full of learning and exercises to help you get to grips with your camera there will be three months of personal support from myself via a private Facebook group.

Want to know more ? There's more info here or you can email me via the contact page.

If you are ready to register you can click here - registration closes on Monday 27th.

In Part Two of my story I'll tell you about how I went from photographing whatever took my fancy when I was out walking to facing a fear (yes really, a fear) of photographing people and further random events that lead me to start a business.

My Favourite Images (its all about the emotion) | Equine Lifestyle Photography in Cheshire http://www.jbroughton.co.uk/blog/2015/7/equine-lifestyle-photography-in-cheshire I'm sure I'm not the only photographer who has their personal favourite images from each photography session and I think we will all have our own, very different, reasons for those favourites. For some I'm sure that it will be the lighting or the composition or maybe a just so perfect pose.

I've been looking through some of my favourites recently, looking at the ones that really make my heart sing and stick in my mind, there's always a few in each shoot. Yesterday when I was choosing images for Hayley's blog post I realised what all my favourites have in common. It's all about the emotion, the connections and the love ! Yes the other things matter too, the light, the composition etc but the ones that really, really make my heart sing, the ones that I look at afterwards and think "THAT'S why I'm a photographer" are the ones that capture something far more intangible.  Equestrian_photography_cheshireEquestrian_photography_cheshireHorses and owners - equine lifestyle photography in Manchester and surrounding areas Of all my favourites (and there are many!) this is one that always leaps to mind. When I chatted to Hayley before the shoot she was telling me about her three horses Mary, Dancier and Fizz the pony. They are all special to Hayley and her family but Mary is extra special. Mary is 20 and Hayley has owned her since she was six and the instruction I was given for the shoot was "I just want one lovely picture of Mary & me". In the end there wasn't just the one, there were lots but this was THE one. This was the one that I knew from the moment I took it that it would be that special image, that this would be the one that went on the wall.

When I help my clients choose their images I never tell them I have favourites or which ones they are, I don't want my personal favourites to influence their choices but funnily enough they are almost always the ones that end up on the wall !

Here's a few more images from the shoot, I really do enjoy Mum and Daughter photoshoots with horses and when the other pets join in too its just perfect !

Hunting for Whales & Snails | Manchester Family Photography at the Seaside http://www.jbroughton.co.uk/blog/2015/6/manchester-family-photography-at-the-seaside Anyone who knows me will know how much I love to be beside the sea, it doesn't even matter what the weather is like, I've been known to trek along a beach in my wellies in the middle of winter when its been so windy I can hardly keep my eyes open. Fortunately the weather for this family photo shoot was much better than that, the dark and ominous clouds that loomed before we started soon disappeared.

I was really pleased when Avril & Paul chose to have their family photo shoot by the sea, it's always a good choice for families, little ones can't possibly get bored on a beach ! It's not a location I'd ever visited before so I arrived a little early so I could have a wander around. What a perfect location Formby turned out to be with its forest walks as well as the beautiful open space of the beach, I can't wait to visit again.

A Well Kept Secret | Children & Ponies in the Ribble Valley http://www.jbroughton.co.uk/blog/2015/4/children-ponies-in-the-ribble-valley "Never work with children and animals" - that well known old saying, I've always wondered where it came from but wherever it was it couldn't be less true for me ! I love working both with children and with animals so when Amy & Dylan's mum rang to book a photo shoot for the children and their ponies, Dolly and Blaze, I was really excited. Photographing very young children with very energetic ponies certainly isn't without its challenges but I don't set a time limit on my sessions so with a bit of patience we managed to calm the ponies enough for some lovely images.

Amy and Dylan were fantastic, such great fun to photograph and their personalities just shine through in the images and they are also great secret keepers. Mum booked the photoshoot at the end of November so that Dad could have a lovely framed image as a surprise Christmas present and they managed not to let anything slip !!

Lifestyle newborn photo sessions are very relaxed and natural sessions telling the story of your new baby's early days at home. They don't involve any props or unusual poses so it doesn't matter if your baby is awake for some of time, Bonnie was just twelve days old when I met her and I can't believe how alert she was !

I was really excited to photograph Sue, not only does she have four beautiful horses that mean the world to her but she also lives in a perfect location to photograph horses, the views are stunning and made a great backdrop. It's really difficult to choose favourites to share so I've just picked a few of each horse, and I'll let you into a little secret - I always adore every horse that I photograph (that's why I enjoy equine photography so much!) but one of these was an extra special favourite ! Business Portraits With Personality - And Why You Shouldn't Use A Selfie http://www.jbroughton.co.uk/blog/2015/3/business-portraits-with-personality We are living in an age where there are more photographs taken and shared than ever before. Virtually everyone carries a camera with them, in the form of their phone, almost constantly and everything is photographed endlessly from cups of coffee, to lunches and new outfits as seen in the mirror.

No doubt you are a social media user (lets face it you need to be if you are in business !) and when you post those quick phone snaps of yourself in your new outfit ready to go out, or with your new hair style or out for a meal with friends I'll bet you get loads of likes & comments (or hearts, favourites or +1's, whatever your preferred social media may be). Those comments will be really positive and no doubt some of them will say something along the lines of "amazing pic" or "fab shot", so if these images are so well liked they will make great profile pictures for your website and LinkedIn, right ? Well I hate to break it you but your friends aren't really praising your photography skills when they say "amazing pic" ! They just like your new outfit or think the place you are looks pretty cool, they may not even be that impressed really but want to say something nice.

The fact that so much imagery is now shared means that alongside the blurred snapshots there's also an incredible amount of stunning photography easily accessible, from highly polished images on Pinterest to fantastically creative work on Instagram. Chances are that your potential customers are seeing a steady stream of high quality imagery when they are online and when they look at a business online they have an almost subconscious expectation that they should be viewing quality images. So please don't use that selfie ! Or that picture from a great night out with your friends (mostly) cropped out ! Its sending out completely the wrong message to your potential customers.

Business portraits don't need to be stiff and formal, they can be if that's in keeping with your brand and your business, but they can also be much more relaxed and capture your personality whilst reflecting your business brand. These images are from a recent business portrait photoshoot with Miranda who is a style advisor.

The Digital Keepsake Package is available for equine lifestyle photography, location portrait sessions for children, families and couples and also for lifestyle newborn photography - keep reading to the bottom for details of two great offers.

The Digital Keepsake Package includes all of the following, it's priced at just £450 and offers savings in excess of £200 compared to ordering from my standard price list :

  • A relaxed photoshoot in a location of your choice, lasting as long as necessary.
  • Travelling up to 30 miles from my home postcode (a small charge is made for greater distances but this is kept as low as possible).
  • 25 fully edited high resolution digital images.
  • Unlimited personal printing rights for your images.
  • Bespoke wooden keepsake box containing a USB of your images with room for prints.
  • Your 10 favourite images as 6"x4" prints with the option to upgrade to include all images.
  • A private online gallery which allows you access to place your own orders for frames and prints with a professional print lab at discounted prices.

Do you have any questions ? Hopefully they are answered below in the FAQs but if not please email or ring !

This package offers some fantastic savings ! How are you able to do that ?

With my bespoke pricing my clients have a viewing session in their home, they will view a gallery of anywhere between 45 and 70 images and I help them to choose their favourites for the wall. All of those images are fully edited which as you can imagine takes quite some time ! By providing a package of 25 images and eliminating the need for a viewing session I'm able to significantly reduce the time needed per photoshoot and pass the saving on in this package.

Am I able to select which images are included on my USB ?

Unfortunately not, if you do prefer to select from a large number of images you will need to book a bespoke session rather than a digital package. However you can rest assured that after almost three years of helping clients choose images I'm really good at it and you won't be disappointed with my selection.

How long will I wait to see my images ?

It generally takes me around 7-10 days to fully edit your images, if there is likely to be any variation you will be advised of this at the point of booking and at the shoot. Once your images are available you will need to choose the ten you wish to have as prints, it then takes around two weeks for your keepsake box to be produced. If you are too excited to wait the 7-10 days don't worry, I can share a couple of "sneak peeks" on Facebook for you !

Do I need to come & collect my order from you ?

No ! As soon as it's available I'll be in touch to arrange to bring your keepsake box and prints.

Do I have to pay the full £450 when I book ?

To reserve a date for your shoot you need to make a payment of just £75, the balance of £375 is due prior to the images being uploaded to your private viewing gallery which is usually 7-10 days later.

I've booked an outdoor photoshoot but the weather forecast is terrible, do we have to go ahead ?

Whilst I'm happy to carry on in light showers and children can have great fun splashing in puddles there are times when the weather is simply too bad, if this happens we will arrange another date and your £75 booking fee is transferred to the new date.

I've booked the Digital Keepsake Package because I want to own as many images as possible from my session, I'd still like something for the wall though. What are my options ?

I strongly encourage people to print as many of the images as possible so that you know they will be around forever. You are purchasing unlimited personal printing rights with your images so you can arrange your own prints and frames wherever you wish. However if you want to ensure you have quality products from a professional UK print lab you can either order through your online gallery or I can show you some sample frames when I bring your keepsake box and can order wall art on your behalf.

It sounds great, how do I book and how much notice do you need ?

To book or check availability you can either give me a call on 07952 990642 or email me at janet@jbroughton.co.uk. I'll always do my best to fit you in but if you need a weekend photoshoot these can get booked up quite quickly so please book as far in advance as possible.

Special Offers !!

Sorry - now closed.

I'm really excited to launch the Digital Keepsake Package with two very special offers !

Firstly, and this definitely won't be repeated, the first person to book this package can claim it for half price, that's just £225 - there is one condition attached to this offer though, I need to photograph the keepsake box & prints for my website, social media and promotional use so you must be willing to sign a permission form for your images to be used in this way. You can claim the half price offer for equine, kids, family, maternity, couples in fact any sort of portrait session (before the end of March) but if its for a newborn your baby must be due no later than mid March.

The second offer is a fantastic 20% discount to anyone booking by the end of March 2015 and this can be any sort of portrait session and as long as you choose a provisional date and pay your booking fee by 31.03.15 your photoshoot can take place any time this year !

Please feel free to give me a call if you would like any further information, details are above or you can visit the Contact Page & fill in the form.

Taking To The Airwaves - BBC Radio Lancashire http://www.jbroughton.co.uk/blog/2015/2/taking-to-the-airwaves---bbc-radio-lancashire I'm a little shocked and embarrassed to realise how long it is since my last blog post. I hadn't realised that my last post was as long ago as November but at least I'm breaking my silence with something a little different than usual & rather exciting (well exciting to me anyway!!).

For just over a year I've been working a photographic project to meet and photograph fifty people who have been so passionate about a hobby/interest that they have made a business or career from it. So far I've met some amazing people with all sorts of interesting businesses and all from very different backgrounds. Fifty Portraits has its own website www.fiftyportraits.co.uk and as each new person is added its shared around social media and is building quite a following. Be sure to pop across there and take a look and if you think you fit the bill and would like to be one of the fifty please get in touch - you can use the contact page here.

A couple of weeks ago I was really excited to receive a tweet from one of the BBC Radio Lancashire presenters to say he would love to have me on his afternoon show to chat about Fifty Portraits - well I have to say I jumped at the chance without thinking, its not every day you get to go on the radio & talk about something you love. Although it's probably a good job I didn't stop to think because that's when the nerves set in - would I stutter, would my mind go blank so I couldn't even remember my name, would I keep saying errrm, would I cough all the way through, would everyone understand my Bolton accent !!

So this week I went along to Blackburn for the John "Gilly" Gillmore show and as well as appearing on the show I also photographed Gilly for my project, his passion for radio became his career and he will be appearing on the blog as my 25th portrait, the halfway point reached in a little over twelve months.

Here are some of my "behind the scenes" images;

So how did go ? Well none of the things I worried about happened and I really enjoyed, it was very relaxed, Gilly was lovely and very easy to chat to. I didn't say errm, go blank, cough or struggle for things to say - in fact I could have happily chatted all afternoon. We talked about my career change, my business, my Image of the Year Award (if you don't know all about that click here) and of course the Fifty Portraits project.

Having listened to it I have to say my voice doesn't sound anything like it does in my head, but I'm pretty sure everyone would have understood my Bolton accent - it was BBC Radio Lancashire after all !! If you'd like to hear it you can find a link here.

"Save The Date" | A Romantic Photoshoot In The Lake District http://www.jbroughton.co.uk/blog/2015/2/-save-the-date-a-romantic-photoshoot-in-the-lake-district With Valentines Day fast approaching I thought it would be a perfect time to share a beautiful romantic photo shoot from last autumn, not just a wonderful couple (and their dog !) but also what has to be my favourite location so far for a photoshoot.

I was really excited to be setting off up the M6 last October on a day that had turned out to be absolutely perfect for photography, a little cloudy but bright and some mist hanging over the hills. I met Rick and Mel along with Max the dog - the star of the shoot - in Shap village and then its was off to Haweswater to walk around the lake to the place where Rick had proposed. And what a perfect spot that was !

I always love to include pets in a photo shoot but Max had a very special part to play, he's going to an important part of the wedding later this year so we needed some great portraits of him for the "Save The Date" cards and the wedding invites. He was a perfect poser though so it wasn't too difficult at all !

And a few more personal favourites, its such a stunning location with such lovely subjects it would be a shame not to share more !

Competition Time | Win A Lifestyle Newborn Photoshoot http://www.jbroughton.co.uk/blog/2014/11/competition-time-win-a-lifestyle-newborn-photoshoot It's competition time and I'm really excited to be giving away TWO lifestyle newborn photoshoots !

Lifestyle newborn photography tells the story of your babies first days in beautiful timeless images. It captures those special early days and that newness of your little one in images without props or complicated poses (if you click here you can see a blog post of a recent shoot) and I'm so excited about this change in style that I've decided to have a competition to win one of two fantastic prizes of a free photoshoot with a framed desk print.

The competition is open to anyone with a baby due in January or February 2015 living within 25 miles of my home in Bolton (if you are a little further away you can still enter but may need to pay a small travelling charge) and it couldn't be easier to enter, just follow the steps below :

1. Like my Facebook Page and the competition post which will either be pinned to the top of the page or just a few posts away (you can share too if you like but that isn't compulsory).

2. Send me an email at janet@jbroughton.co.uk and tell me why you think you should win a photoshoot - hearing your story inspires my photography.

3. Include your postcode and due date in the email.

And that's all there is to it, it really couldn't be easier.

The competition will close for entries on the 30th November, I will select a short list of five entries (based on why you think you should win) and two of these will be randomly selected as winners.

The prize is a photoshoot and a desk frame and has a total value of £125. It can only be taken on a weekday and must be taken before your baby is two weeks old. No alternative will be given. There will be no obligation to purchase any further images but should you choose to do so a 10% discount will be offered.

Images from the winning shoots will be used on my website, social media etc, and you will be required to sign a permission form.

Look forwards to receiving your entry !

Claire & Holly | Ribble Valley Equine Photography http://www.jbroughton.co.uk/blog/2014/10/ribble-valley-equine-photography One of the favourite parts of my job is hearing people's stories when I photograph them. Everyone has a story, sometimes it's very simple, others there is a little more to it but there is always a special reason behind a photoshoot. Claire and Holly were no exception, when Claire first contacted me regarding their photoshoot she described Holly as an "old lady". She certainly is an old lady, she is 27 but you would never know it and she certainly made me work hard during the shoot ! Claire and Holly have been together since they were both very young and although Holly is no longer ridden you can tell from the images what an incredible bond there is between the two of them.

I have to confess that I was ridiculously excited to find out that Claire's family also keep alpacas - I absolutely adore alpacas and have never had an opportunity to photography them before !! Had to remind myself what I was there for ! So if any one ever needs any alpaca photographer don't forget about me :)

Pony Love | An Equine Lifestyle Photoshoot in Merseyside http://www.jbroughton.co.uk/blog/2014/10/equine-lifestyle-photography-merseyside I'm so excited to share these images, Bethan won a photoshoot much earlier this year after entering my Facebook competition with a picture of her daughter, Ruby, and her pony Flash. It's such a lovely relationship between a girl and her pony and it was a privilege to be able to create some images that captured their bond. And of course we couldn't leave Bow the dog out !

Flash is an amazing pony, he followed me around just like a dog and whenever we were all stood still he would gently rest his muzzle on an arm or hand, he just loves to be in contact with people. It's no wonder Ruby loves him so much !

Mum Bethan also has a gorgeous horse Jack - here's a few more favourites, although there were so many its been difficult to choose.

I was so pleased to see the image above in a gorgeous black signature frame, it's going to look fantastic on the wall and will definitely be treasured.

Anna & Udai | Equine Photography Lancashire http://www.jbroughton.co.uk/blog/2014/9/equine-photography-lancashire Having a bit of a catch up on blogging some of the lovely equine photoshoots I've had over the summer. Anna is another client who has wonderful friends that treated her to a voucher for her shoot. I had the pleasure of photographing Anna with her horse Udai earlier in the summer, look at the size of him, isn't he absolutely stunning !

It's been difficult selecting just a few to share but here are some of my favourites.

I was really pleased that I managed to capture an image with both a horse and a dog looking happily at the camera. I'd love to take all the credit for it but I have to confess that Anna's husband and dad were a massive help jumping around and making noises behind me !

Time for a change | Lifestyle Newborn Photography Lancashire http://www.jbroughton.co.uk/blog/2014/9/lifestyle-newborn-photography-lancashire I'm so excited to share some images from this beautiful lifestyle newborn photoshoot and to show my new approach to photographing babies.

So why the change you may ask ? Well it's hard to believe but it's now almost two and half years since I launched my business and started to photograph newborns and I absolutely love it but have also started to feel that I needed to change something before I began to feel stale and stop loving what I was doing. I could have gone down the route of a studio with more props, poses that are produced by combining images in photoshop, a wider choice of back drops, blankets and hats but if I'm honest that's not really me, it doesn't fit with my style & approach for my portrait photography and I love the fact that I go to new mums and they don't need to come to me.

After much thought I've decided to adopt a lifestyle approach to my newborn photography and to produce natural, timeless images that tell the story of those wonderful early days with your gorgeous new baby. These beautiful images still capture that special newness of your baby, tiny toes and fingers, pouting lips, downy skin etc. They also can involve the whole family and take in many of the features of the home, including the nursery.

So here they are, images from my first lifestyle newborn photoshoot in Lancashire with the lovely Lottie & her family - hope you like them as much as I do, please feel free to leave your thoughts in the comments and be sure to scroll right to the bottom for a fantastic launch offer !

Equine Lifestyle Photoshoot | Leyland, Lancashire http://www.jbroughton.co.uk/blog/2014/8/equine-lifestyle-photoshoot-leyland-lancashire I'm writing this post listening to the rain and wind that is supposedly to be blamed on hurricane Bertha and its hard to believe that less than three weeks ago when I met Jo and her horse Tom it was so hot that it was uncomfortable !

Jo must have a wonderful set of friends, they got together to treat her to a gift voucher for her birthday so that she could have a shoot with her gorgeous horse Tom who, believe it or not is twenty-four !

Here are a few of my favourites from the shoot at the stables in Leyland :
